Netherlands-Ukraine Business Forum

De Issuemakers often collaborates internationally with the strategic communication consultancy firm APCO Worldwide. APCO asked us to support the Ukrainian Minister of Finance, Natalie Jaresko, for the media strategy and public relations around the Netherlands-Ukraine Business Forum in March 2016.

During this event the central focus lay on the consolidation and expansion of the already close trade relations between the two countries. Ministers and state secretaries from various departments of both countries were present to make agreements about trade, agriculture and finance. The Ukrainian delegation was led by minister Jaresko, and because the Dutch referendum about the association treaty was scheduled just one week after the forum, this was a perfect opportunity to let the Dutch people know the Ukrainian side of the story through the press.

De Issuemakers supported the delegation by first providing explanation from a Dutch perspective to the issues around the referendum. We then offered strategic advice on the existing key messages and spokesman strategies and the streamlining of communications between the various Dutch and Ukrainian ministries involved. We organised a series of interviews for minister Jaresko and manoeuvred the Netherlands-Ukraine Business Forum through Dutch media onto the political and social agendas.

In addition to strategic advice, this assignment resulted in various publications in Dutch media, such as this joint interview with the minsters of finance Jaresko and Dijsselbloem in NRC Handelsblad, this interview in De Telegraaf, this interview on RTL Z and this interview, which was broadcast by De Ochtend op Radio 1. Jaresko’s two-day tour concluded with a joint press conference of ministers Dijsselbloem and Jaresko at the Ministry of Finance in The Hague, which was attended by Dutch and international media.
