Attention to the importance of clean air

Public Affairs and Public Relations for the Lung Fund

The air you breathe in the Netherlands is not healthy. Every year, 5,000 people die in the Netherlands from the consequences, and 16,000 people end up urgently in hospital. Air pollution causes and worsens lung diseases such as asthma and COPD. In children, it damages the development of their lungs and brain, which always bothers them. Air pollution also causes lung cancer, cardiovascular disease, dementia and premature births.

The Long Fund asked the Issue Makers to support them in putting this issue on the political agenda. On November 1, 2016, the Lung Fund in The Hague advocated a National Healthy Air Plan. Director Michael Rutgers, together with ambassador Edwin de Vries and children from the Dubbelster primary school in Amersfoort, presented a plea for a National Healthy Air Plan to the House. Concrete result: a large turnout of MPs who, after receiving the plea, tweeted about this great initiative and the importance of healthy air in the Netherlands.
