Netherlands-Ukraine Business Forum

De Issuemakers often collaborates internationally with a strategic communications consultancy APCO Worldwide. We were asked by APCO to support the Minister of Finance of Ukraine, Natalie Jaresko, in March 2016 with the media strategy and public relations surrounding the Netherlands-Ukraine Business Forum.

During this event the focus was on consolidating and expanding the already close trade relations between the two countries. Ministers and state secretaries from various departments from both countries were present to make agreements on trade, agriculture and finance. The Ukrainian delegation was led by Minister Jaresko and because the Dutch referendum on the association agreement was scheduled only one week after the forum, this was an excellent opportunity to tell the Ukrainian side of the story to the Dutch people through the press.

The Issuemakers supported the delegation by first explaining the issues surrounding the referendum from a Dutch perspective. We then provided strategic advice on the existing core messages and lines of communication and on streamlining the communications between the various Dutch and Ukrainian ministries involved. We have set up a series of interviews for Minister Jaresko and we have put the Netherlands-Ukraine Business Forum on the agenda of the Dutch media, politicians and the public.

In addition to strategic advice, this assignment resulted in several publications in Dutch media, such as this duo interview of finance ministers Jaresko and Dijsselbloem in NRC Handelsblad, into this interview The Telegraph, this interview on RTL Z and this interview that aired in The Morning on Radio 1. Jaresko's two-day tour concluded with a joint press conference of Ministers Dijsselbloem and Jaresko at the Ministry of Finance in The Hague, where Dutch and international media were present.
